Frequently Asked Questions
1
How much do you charge for your services?
Nothing. ITDRC disaster operations are funded through private donations and industry grants. Most of our equipment and services are donated by socially responsible corporations.
2
Do you work with other nonprofits?
Lots. From national giants like Team Rubicon, American Red Cross, and Salvation Army, to regional organizations including Food Banks, Social Service Agencies, and Community Services.
3
We are a small town, could we call ITDRC for help in a disaster?
Absolutely. We have deployed to some really small communities in rural America, as well as the largest cities in the country. Disasters always exceed the capacity and resources of the local jurisdiction, and most always require outside help.
4
How long does ITDRC provide assistance to a community after a disaster?
Our Disaster Response Team usually arrives within 24 hours of an event, and remains deployed for 3-6 weeks to facilitate resources for Recovery. Once the Response Team demobilizes, ongoing support is transitioned to local volunteers, and our Remote Response Team. Our commitment to a community doesn’t end when the TV cameras leave; we continue to provide resources and support throughout the Long Term Recovery process.
5
You're a volunteer organization; shouldn't disaster stuff be left to the "professionals"?
Good Question. Fortunately, we are disaster AND technology professionals. Our Tech volunteers have real world experience in a number of technologies; including voice, data, RF infrastructure, video, application, and critical power. In addition to their technical expertise, all field deployable members have formal training in ICS & NIMS, and many with Military, Public Safety, and Emergency Management experience. We’ve helped thousands of communities recover from disasters, and know disaster technology like the back of our hand; which is why we are one of the most respected disaster NGOs in the country.
6
Are there other organizations like yours?
Not exactly. There are for-profit companies that provide similar fee based services, and international aid organizations that respond abroad. ITDRC is a volunteer driven 501(c)(3) Non-Profit that harnesses the philanthropic resources of the greater technology community to provide no cost technical assistance to communities impacted by disaster within the United States and its territories. We are a trusted resource to local, state, and national nonprofits and emergency management agencies, and a FEMA Tech Sector Collaboration Partner.
7
Do you team up with companies that have volunteer programs?
Absolutely! Many ITDRC members participate in their company’s employee volunteering program, which provides a great benefit to our organization, as well as those we serve. Some companies give employees time off to volunteer, and others match volunteer hours with a monetary donation! Being a part of something like that lets your company become a great force multiplier for us.
8
We're having an event in our town. Does ITDRC ever support or participate in community events?
Sure! Contact us with the details of your event. We're happy to provide technology resources to assist with operations and logistics to events such as public safety exercises and community festivals
9
We have some equipment we'd like to donate to a worthy cause, can you use it?
Of course! We are always looking for serviceable equipment for disaster relief, and to share with other non-profits. As a general rule, we are interested in enterprise grade switching, routing, and WiFi equipment; as well as notebooks, workstations, and monitors manufactured in the last 3-5 years. Email us at partner@itdrc.org.
